Cadets do well in sailing regatta

An Espanola sea cadet is off to a national sailing competition later this summer. Last weekend, June 21-22, the Ontario Provincial Sailing Regatta was held at HMCS Ontario, Kingston. It was attended by 84 Sea Cadets from across Ontario all hoping to make Team Ontario, and in turn, to compete at the National Sea Cadet Sailing Regatta this summer. #357 HERO sea cadet corp from Espanola sent three cadets to compete: CHIEF PETTY OFFICER 2 Riley Nadeau, PETTY OFFICER 2 Severin Gravelle and MASTER SEAMAN Gabriel Nadeau. Last year’s Provincial Regatta champion, Riley Nadeau, teamed up with PO1 Chase Davies from London, Ontario, in the hopes of once again sailing for the National Team Ontario. He finished sixth in nationals last year. The duo finished third overall at last week’s regatta and will now go to nationals. Meanwhile, this was the first provincial regatta for the paired team of Gravelle and Gabriel Nadeau who finished third overall in the Silver fleet, quite an accomplishment for a first time effort.
