North Words gathering planned for Manitoulin

This weekend, authors, playwrights, poets, and musicians will gather on Manitoulin Island to honour the spoken and written word, local history, and more.

NorthWordsFest will be held in Kagawong this weekend featuring a variety of keynote speakers, this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday including noted historian Shelley J. Pearan.

Pearen has been researching the history of Manitoulin Island and its people for over 40 years.

She is the author of “Exploring Manitoulin” and “Four Voices, The Great Manitoulin Island Treaty of 1862,” as well as a co-transcriber and co-translator of 13 volumes of Jesuit letters written in the Great Lakes region in the 19th century.

There will also be plenty of music and workshops including an open-air painting session with renowned local artist Mike Cywink, a book sale, and a one-man show by The Knitting Pilgrim.
