No fire evacuations – help available for livestock

There is currently no need for an evacuation in the City of Elliot Lake and immediate vicinity

Members of the public will be notified immediately if this changes.

Elliot Lake Fire Chief John Thomas is in constant contact with the Ministry of Natural Resources who’s crews are actively working on the SUD #017 fire, which is burning in the Tote Road area north of Massey.

Up to date information will be available through the City’s social media, website and The Moose.

Wildfires do not only affect people, but animals as well and the Massey Agricultural Society is lending it supports to those who may have animals that need emergency storage.

The Massey Agricultural Society has free emergency indoor and outdoor storage available and if someone needs a place to put items due to evacuation, they can contact the society.

The society says they have been approached by local farms willing to help out if anyone needs to relocate livestock including offers to take in horses, chickens, small livestock, and cattle.

Emergency locations are available in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township and Chelmsford.

The society can be reached through private messaging on their Facebook site at: https://www.facebook.com/masseyfair or via email at: [email protected] or by phone at: (705) 865-2070
