Breaching fire ban leads to other charges

East Algoma OPP say breaching the fire ban has led to other charges against an Elliot Lake man.

Constable Phil Young says officers were on general patrol on Wednesday when they noticed people having a campfire near Spruce Beach during the current fire ban.

He says police recognized the individuals and knew they were breaching prior release conditions by being together.

Additionally, there were arrest warrants out for one of the two and a subsequent arrest was made.

Young says a 53-year-old man from Elliot Lake has been charged with two counts of breach adding the accused is to appear in Elliot Lake court on August 14th.
