Communities improving arenas, community centres and attractions through a NOHFC grant

Several communities will be sharing a $5 million fund from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation including Espanola, Elliot Lake, Blind River, and communities across Manitoulin Island.

Espanola is receiving $375,000 to replace the HVAC system and to carry out roof repairs at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex while Elliot Lake is receiving half-a-million dollars for upgrades at the Ruben Yli-Juuti Aquatic Centre.

A new floating dock system will be installed at the Spider Bay Marina and upgrades to the Manitoulin East Municipal Airport through the grant of just over $522,000 while the Town of Gore Bay will receive $199,200 for improvements to the Harbour Centre and waterfront board walk.

The Town of Blind River will also make several improvements at its community centre and arena with a $388,400 grant while Tekhummah township will get a share of $167,000 for its nature trail and pavilion.

Another $83,591 goes to the Municipality of Huron Shores to upgrade Sowerby Hall while $66,870 for the Township of Cockburn Island to upgrade its community hall.

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities will receive $150,000 for its economic development initiatives and administration costs.
