Furever Homes explores partnerships with the city and other municipalities

Furever Homes, the former Society for Animals in Elliot Lake, will be partnering with the City of Elliot Lake to open their new facility.

Furever treasurer Tammy Van Roon told council the group has been successful in securing a new lease agreement at 37 Timber Road, but since the facility is smaller than their previous location, they are hosting fundraisers to expand the outdoor space and are hoping for a donation of two motor homes to turn into isolation space for new arrivals.

Van Roon says even with this new space, the move will mean a large reduction in their capacity.

She adds the group wants to reach a partnership agreement with the city for a new facility shared with the city’s dog pound, another facility in need of repair.

Council agreed to work out a partnership as soon as possible with the organization.

The Furever board is hoping to open the new leased facility later this month or by early May.
