Theft of catalytic converters from two local businesses

Two individuals are facing several charges regarding the theft of catalytic converters from businesses in Spragge earlier this month.

East Algoma OPP Constable Bev Gauthier says an investigation revealed that on March 17th, thieves had cut two of the convertors at one business and then tried on another at a car dealership, both on Highway 17.

She says police were on the lookout for a suspect black vehicle stopping it in Thessalon and found two catalytic convertors with fresh cut marks.

She says a 39-year-old man of no fixed address and a 35-year-old Sault Ste. Marie are each facing charges of two counts of theft, mischief, and possession.

The man is facing an additional charge of possession of cocaine and the woman is also facing charges of obstruction of a police officer, suspended driving, and having open liquor in a vehicle.

Gauthier says the two were remanded into police custody following a bail hearing in Blind River.
