Manitoulin Island and Espanola Annual Domestic Report – there is help available

The Annual Domestic Report has been released by Manitoulin OPP which shows a slight decrease in domestic violence numbers over the last two years.

John Hill, the Manitoulin OPP Community Services Officer says officers investigated 308 domestic-related incidents in 2022, 88 of which resulted in someone being charged with a criminal offence.

He says that is a four percent decrease in domestic-related incidents compared to 2021 where 321 incidents were investigated and 78 resulted in charges ranging from assault to arson.

Hill says the report is important because it is vital that the victims of abusive relationships know they are not alone, and police and supportive services are available for any victims.

The helpline can be reached at 1-866-863-0511.
