LaCloche Foothills moving working on implement Community Safety and Well-Being Plan

The LaCloche Foothills Mayors Association has hired Jennifer Lagrandeur as the Community Health Navigator to work on implementing the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.

In later January, Lagrandeur updated the Espanola council, about various initiatives including establishing the Community of Care Planning Network with over 40 members representing all local social and health services providers and municipal governments.

She says one project includes exploring options for a regional transportation service for seniors needing transportation for medical appointments.

Lagrandeaur adds that children are also part of the plan to organize a bike exchange for youth to receive free bicycles and a bike rodeo in collaboration with the OPP to provide safe bicycle use demonstrations this coming spring/summer.

And another project includes developing a “red book” to be distributed once developed to provide critical information about which phone numbers and agencies to contact in various critical situations when individuals are in need.

The initiatives are being led by four local communities, the Town of Espanola and the townships of Nairn & Hyman, Sables-Spanish Rivers, and Baldwin.
