The Grandmother’s Council of Serpent River First Nation is hosting a gathering this evening with a focus on the Blanding Turtle and the protection of the watershed.
Spokesperson Rhonda Kirby says North Shore Environmental Resource Advocates Incorporated is fighting a permit application for a trap rock quarry proposal in the Township of the North Shore.
She says the advocates will meet this evening to discuss the possible effects on the habitat, and species at risk especially the Blanding Turtle.
She says the turtle is classified as threatened, adding that means it could become endangered if nothing is done to protect them.
Kirby says there will be keynote speakers at this gathering being hosted by the Grandmother’s Council from 5 to 7 pm at the Serpent River Lifestyle Centre Gym.
Everyone is invited to attend.
