Public Health Sudbury & Districts says the new Omicron sub-variant, XBB including XBB 1.5, has been detected in the local districts.

Dr. Imran Adrian Khan, a physician with the agency, emphasizes some reports show that XXB is the most transmissible variant detected to date, adding projections for this week that it could make up more than 20% of all strains found in Ontario.

He adds it is important to stay up to date with vaccinations and to continue practicing personal protective measures.

Dr. Khan adds check with the health unit to see if you are due for a booster.
