Police investigating violent text messaging

There is a new scam that involves violent text messages according to Island police.

The Manitoulin OPP and Wiikwemkoong Tribal Police are investigating several incidents of violent phone messaging, which were received in Wiky just before 3 pm on January 15th.

OPP Constable John Hill says the messaging involves images of dead bodies and body parts.

He adds the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre has issued an alert that there is a violent text messaging extortion scam where if payment is not sent, threats are made to individuals and/or their families.
