Elliot Lake hospital kicks off campaign to improve the oncology department

The St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation is starting up a new campaign to raise 1-million dollars to improve oncology services at the hospital.

Last Friday, Hospital foundation member William Elliott and board chair Deborah Dubois made the announcement with details to be finalized with both entities.

Elliot says the hospital has not finalized all the details, but the foundation has decided to support the oncology department since it needs upgrading to remain certified.

He and Dubois accepted a cheque from Cindy Restoule for $500, half her winnings as an early bird foundation winner, to kick off the campaign.

Dubois says some 500 people are treated each year and upgrading the service would allow for five additional treatments each day.

The official launch is expected within the next few weeks.

50/50 revenues will also go to the campaign.
