Arrest made in connection with attempted murder on Manitoulin Island

It has taken nearly a year, but a 37-year-old man from Toronto was arrested this week in connection with an attempted murder on Manitoulin Island.

UCCM Anishinaabe Police Service says the man was arrested on Monday and charged with attempt to commit murder, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon and unauthorized use of a firearm.

According to the police, back in February of last year, officers were called out about a weapons incident on In M’Chigeeng First Nation.

Officers found a 30-year-old man had been shot and was transported to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

A search ensued with the accused finally found this week and returned to Manitoulin Island to face the charges.
