Waste disposal contract signed for Espanola – reduction in bags

Espanola council has reconsidered a waste disposal contract with Dodge Haulage Limited of Espanola, which will mean a reduction in the number of bags for weekly pickup.

Town clerk Joseph Burke says residents will see their weekly bag limits reduced from four bags per week to two and commercial bag limits will also be halved from 16 bags per week to eight bags per week.

He adds bags cannot weigh more than 50 pounds each with the new stipulations coming into effect in mid-July of this year.

Burke says extra tags can be purchased through the town office with both residents and businesses having the option to purchase up to 2 bags/month at a cost of $2.00/bag for curb-side pick-up.

He adds the new contract includes a ten-year term with no cost-of-living adjustments for the first five years.
