City of Elliot Lake and local OPP working on reducing emergency calls

East Algoma OPP has teamed up with the City of Elliot Lake to try and help reduce the number of calls to the emergency line, especially in non-emergency situations.

According to the release, anyone can continue to call 911 for serious fire, medical or policing assistance, but for minor crimes, there is now an online option.

Minor crimes with no injuries or suspects can be reported at opp.calreporting.

The partners emphasize they want citizens to receive the help they need as quickly as possible without having to call in emergency services if they are not needed.

Reporting crimes anonymously is now another option with Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers now extending its services to the city.

Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers Tip hotline: 800-222-8427 or online at: sudburycrimestoppers.com

Tipsters can report information on criminal activity; will remain 100 per cent anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.

For non-emergency police calls, there is a toll free number, 888-310-1122 available.
