Cyber incident leads to closure of English Catholic schools

English Catholic schools in the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board including Sacred Heart in Espanola and St. Mary in Massey, are now closed due to a cyber incident.
The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board is currently recovering from a cyber incident that first came to their attention this morning (Thursday, December 15th).
Education director, Danny Viotto, says upon our discovery, we immediately took steps to secure our network and retained expert assistance. We are in the process of investigating and understanding the full impact of this incident.
“Since our communications systems in schools such as telephones and P.A. Systems have been affected due to this cyber-incident, and to ensure the health and safety of everyone, all staff and students will be sent home for the remainder of the day today and all classes will be canceled this afternoon and tomorrow, Friday, December 16, 2022.”
Classes will resume for staff and students on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
“Principals and Vice-Principals will remain in schools for the remainder of today and will be reporting to their schools on Friday should their assistance be required at the school level.”
Moving forward, they will be communicating with all employees and families through our school messenger platform and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter).  At this time, their board website is not operational.
He adds the IT team has been working diligently and will continue until they are able to restore services.
He says thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
