Project Maverick – provincial strategy to protect children

Two Sudbury-area residents have been charged as a part of a provincial strategy to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation online.

Across the province 107 people were charged.

As a part of Project Maverick, the Ontario Provincial Police says over 400 charges were laid in October after 255 investigations.

27 police agencies were involved including the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

The OPP says 61 victims were identified and referred to community-based resources for assistance, while an additional 60 children were safeguarded.

A 28-year-old Sudbury man is charged with agreement or arrangement – sexual offence against child while a 46-year-old Greater Sudbury resident is charged with making written child pornography.

The OPP says 175 investigations are ongoing across the province and additional charges may be laid.
