Ontario government to appeal judge’s findings

The Ford government says it will appeal a court decision that declared its wage-limit law unconstitutional.

Bill 124, which passed in 2019, limited the pay increases of public-sector workers to one per cent a year as a cost-cutting measure.

But a judge ruled yesterday that the law violates the constitutional right to freedom of association and collective bargaining.

The unions say the government shouldn’t be appealing, but instead, it should be working with them to reach a settlement.
