No strike at schools on Monday, students will be in class

It came down to the wire but students will be in school tomorrow.  The Canadian Union of Public Employees, which has 55,000 education workers as members, has reached a tentative contract agreement with the province. There will be no strike on Monday.

Holding up the agreement was not wages after the two sides agreed on a 3.59 per cent wage hike, or $1.00 an hour, earlier in the week.

CUPE was demanding other services, such as an early childhood educator in each kindergarten class, that have been sticking points in the negotiations.

The next step will be for CUPE members to hold a ratification vote on whether to accept the agreement.
