Echo Bay woman arrested for fraud in Elliot Lake

Following a lengthy investigation, East Algoma OPP has arrested an Echo Bay woman on fraud charges.

Constable Phil Young says the woman was arrested on Wednesday at a residence on Highway 17 in Echo Bay. The OPP worked with the Sault Ste. Marie police service on the case, which goes back to 2018.

Young says the complainant reported numerous cheques and a credit card had gone missing from a family member’s residence five years ago and they had been used extensively over the last few years.

He says the 41-year-old woman from Echo Bay is facing a charge of use of a credit card and fraud over $5,000.
