La Renaissance students benefit from learning experience on Manitoulin Island

Learning about the environment by taking a hands-on approach is an important part of the programming at an Espanola school.

According to a release, École catholique La Renaissance students travelled to Manitoulin Island earlier in the month to take part in a learning experience designed to help them discover the Island’s waterways.

The members of the school’s Fish Farming Club were escorted by a guide from Manitoulin Streams to take part in a hike in the Kagawong area known for its stream restoration programs and to also observe salmon on their fall spawning run.

As members of the club, the students also raise their own fish eggs through the school year and release them in local waters in the local area augmenting their environmental studies.
