Ontario Parks making changes ahead of 2023 camping season

The maximum time you can stay at some Ontario Parks will be reduced in 2023.

The reduction will be in place from July 1 to the Saturday of the Labour Day long weekend. The longest you can stay at some of the parks will range from seven to 14 nights, down from 23.

Outside of the aforementioned timeframe, the maximum length of stay will remain at 23 days.

Officials say when you reserve your spot in July five months ahead of time, the change will be in place.

The change doesn’t impact backcountry camping or roofed accommodations.

Algonquin Provincial Park is one of the five that will only allow for seven days’ stays during the busy summer months while 63 parks will switch to a maximum stay of 14 days. There will be 16 parks that will remain at a maximum 23 night stay. A list of which camps are affected is available on Ontario Parks’ website.

Officials with Ontario Parks say 6.6 million campsite reservations were made in 2021, up over two million from 2014. “With reservations on the rise, we want to ensure that more Ontarians can enjoy campground campsites at some of our more popular parks during our busy summer season,” they say.
