Algoma District School Board welcomes the world

The Algoma District School Board says its numbers of multilingual learners from around the globe are way up this year.

The board’s program system administrator, Linda Kirby says almost half of the over 250 international students registered here are part of a parent study permit, where one or both parents are registered to study at either Algoma University or Sault College.

She says the ages range from Junior Kindergarten to high school with learners hailing from 44 countries and speaking up to 35 different languages attending 25 of their schools in the district.

Kirby adds they expect those numbers to rise even higher in the New Year when the next semester at the post-secondary level begins.
