Cecil Youngfox Retrospective at museum in Blind River

Blind River’s Museum is hosting the work of a respected Indigenous artist through the rest of the month.

The Timber Village Gallery in Blind River is hosting the work of Cecil Youngfox who would have been celebrating his 80th birthday this year.

Born in Blind River in 1942, Youngfox devoted his life to using his art to enhance Indigenous culture and break stereotypes.

By the time he passed away in 1987 at the age of 45, he had succeeded in popularizing Indigenous art, especially his own Ojibway, Metis and Christian roots and was also named a member of the Aboriginal Order of Canada for his work.
