Fire Prevention Week

Ensuring families have safe escape routes if a fire breaks out in their home is the goal of the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township Volunteer Firefighters for this year’s Fire Prevention Week.

Publicist Jilliana Goodchild says it is Fire Prevention Week across Canada and firefighters are donating their time to help spread the fire safety messages across the township by hosting seminars for families.

She says the three fire stations will be opening up their stations to families, including children from 6 pm to 8 pm this week to talk about fire safety, review fire escape plans, provide treats from Sparky and engage the children in safe fire practices.

She says the first session took place last night at the Webbwood station, with the other two set for Walford tonight and Thursday evening at Massey.

The public is encouraged to contact its own fire departments if they would like a home inspection and all home and business owners are encouraged to check their fire and CO2 alarms to ensure they are in working order.
