The board of directors at the Society of Animals in Distress has put out a public notice that they are suspending operations temporarily at their Elliot Lake shelter.
According to the release, the board states it has been apprised of the rapidly deteriorating condition of the shelter at 33 Perini Road.
The statement reads in the interest of the public, staff, volunteers and animal safety the decision has been made to temporarily suspend operations while they assess the shelter and structure.
They are also asking the public not to call, email, visit or send messages to the shelter until the assessment has been completed.
Once the assessment is completed, the directors state they will release more information to the public.
The structural assessment of the building is to be completed today following the building being condemned by the city building inspector late last week.
