Memorial walk held to raise awareness seeking person responsible for son’s death

The family of a Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory man was joined by both the Manitoulin OPP and the Wikwemikong Tribal Police this weekend to honour the memory of Anthony Samuel Mandamin.

Manitoulin OPP Constable Jessica Gilbertson says Mandamin was only 25 years old when he died.

She says he was struck and killed back on September 16th, 2006, while walking on Kaboni Road in Wiikwemkoong.

She says officers from both services including Acting Sergeant Ryan Carson of the OPP and Sergeant Dianne Trudeau of the local police joined the family on the walk held on Saturday.

She adds the walk is organized every year by his family in the hope that the person responsible will come forward.

Gilbertson says the case remains open and if anyone has any information, they can contact police.

Both the OPP and WTPS ask that any person with information regarding the driver responsible for this incident, including witnesses who were passengers in this vehicle, should contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or WTPS at 705-859-3141.
