Elks making crucial decision about keeping or selling building

Espanola Elks will be making a crucial decision on the future of the hall next month.

An emergency meeting was held Tuesday night about selling the hall, which was built some 75 years ago.

Wanda Ouimette, the Grand Exalted Ruler, says the pandemic led to the loss of major revenue and despite the fundraisers held over the last year, the organization is running out of money to even maintain the hall on a month-to-month basis.

She says work had been done to apply for grants, but they were turned down and there is little if any programs by the province or feds to help the organization with upgrades, such as roof and bathroom repairs.

She says Elk members will be asked to vote on a motion to sell the building and invest the funding to continue the charity work carried out by the organization with no plans to give up the charter.

All members are encouraged to attend the dinner meeting on September 14th at 6 pm at the hall.
