Fundraiser for local area paramedic undergoing stem cell therapy

A major fundraiser is being held for a local area paramedic who is undergoing stem cell therapy not covered by government or insurance sources.

Ashley Dieks, a paramedic with the Manitoullin-Sudbury DSAB has been diagnosed with a form of blood cancer called Myeloma.

While her chemotherapy treatment is covered, which began in June, she is planning to undertake stem cell harvesting and transplant in Ottawa in October, and that is not covered.

To help her offset those costs, the annual Beacon Ride will be held on September 11th out of the Garson Arena.

The event includes two bike rides, one at $20, the other at $60, with all the funds going to Dieks.

A Go Fund Me has also been set up.
