School board fine-tuning Indigenous programming

The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board is continuing to finetune their programs focusing on Indigenous peoples.

Sandra Turco, the chair of the board says they support the apology made by Pope Francis and are looking at various ways to support the school community.

She says new programming is also coming into place that will meet the Ontario First Nation, Metis and Inuit Education Policy and Framework.

Turco says the partnerships with First Nations continue throughout the board coverage area to integrate Indigenous teachings, history and culture within their schools.

She adds this August, the board will introduce its Indigenous Transitions Summer Program, which will focus on preparing Indigenous students for secondary school.
