The GLOBAL REPORT – monkeypox, the war and more …

Sick leave for monkeypox
The New Democrats are renewing their call for ten days of paid sick leave in Ontario, this time, to deal with rising cases of monkeypox.
NDP MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam says it takes at least that long to recover from the virus.
She notes ten days should be available to all those suffering from communicable diseases, such as COVID-19.
Currently, the province offers three paid days off for COVID-19 infections, a temporary program that is to expire at the end of next March.

Russian war dead
Ukrainian President Volodymyr  Zelensky says nearly 40 thousand Russian soldiers have been killed since the invasion of Ukraine began on February 24th.
He adds tens of thousands of others have been wounded.
In his nightly address, Zelensky also called Russian cutbacks in natural gas supplies to western Europe a form of terrorism.

NATO and terrorism
Turkey’s foreign minister says Sweden has not yet extradited suspects that his country seeks on terrorism charges.
Turkey had opposed applications to join NATO from Sweden and Finland, saying they were harbouring
people it considers terrorists.
The three countries signed a deal last month in which the two applicants agreed to take action on counter-terrorism and arms sales.
The applications must be approved by all 30 member nations.

Earthquake in the Philippines
At least four people are known dead, and more than 60 others injured, after a strong earthquake shook
the northern Philippines early this morning.
The magnitude-seven temblor struck the northern part of the island of Luzon, shaking high-rise buildings in the capital of Manila, more than 400 kilometres away.
Rescue crews say several buildings in the earthquake zone have collapsed.
