Wyona Thompson Fund provides major bursary to L. U.

One of the largest gifted bursaries of its kind has been made to Laurentian University’s School of Education.

Dr. Celine Lariviere, the dean of education and health says the donation was made in the name of the late Wyona Thompson, an alumnus who passed away in June of last year.

She says the “Wyona Thompson Fund” will benefit students by creating scholarships to assist students in financial need, but also to acknowledge academic excellence, primarily those in the Bachelor of Education programs.

Dr. Lariviere adds Wyona’s gift will also support students in placements located in more remote and underserved communities where role models will have a tremendous and long-lasting impact on young people

She adds the gift is the largest in the School of Education’s history and students who are interested in applying for these scholarships are now able to do so.
