UPDATE: MR. MYERS has clarified some information that was not provided in the original release as follows … My service will still be getting and responding to calls for the Foleyet and Gogama areas. What is changing is that when a call comes in for emergency Paramedic services, it will be the ambulance dispatch centre in Sudbury that will take the call and dispatch our Paramedics. The current model has calls going to 3 different centres (depending on the location) in Sault Ste Marie, Timmins and Sudbury. There are also several different numbers out there to call for Paramedic Services and some pockets of our Northern service area still do not have 911 capabilities. The Ministry of Health has now created one single number for emergency calls to be directed to the Sudbury Central Ambulance Communications Centre for the Foleyet, Gogama and surrounding areas to mitigate risk and eliminate all other legacy numbers that currently exist.
Foleyet, Gogama, and First Nations will see a change in the phone number to reach paramedic services.
Chief of Paramedic Services, Paul Myre says the Ministry of Health’s Emergency Health Services will be migrating all emergency call taking and dispatching of Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB Paramedic Services to the Central Ambulance Communications Centre located in Sudbury.
He says with the migration, the number to call for the communities of Foleyet, Gogama, surrounding areas and First Nations Communities for paramedic response will change to a one-eight-seven-seven number.
He adds all allied agencies and residents have been notified through Canada Post that the change takes place next Tuesday, June 28th at 9 am.
The new number for paramedic services is 1-877-351-2345.
