Algoma Family Services has been dedicating Pride Benches at its office locations across the district in recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to the Pride Community.
This Thursday at noon, they will be dedicating a Pride Bench in honour of well-known advocate and lawyer, Douglas (Doug) Elliott, located in front of their local office in Elliot Lake.
Spokesperson Myriam Cyr says Elliott was the driving force behind the creation of Elliot Lake Pride in 2013 and serves as the organization’s Vice-President.
She adds Elliott helped organize and present at a panel on Truth and Reconciliation Day last year in Elliot Lake and just recently he presented on a panel at Canada Pride on Building Bridges between Pride Committees and First Nations.
Cyr adds this is the third such dedication headed up by the organization and there are already plans to host the fourth in Wawa next year.
