Supply chain challenges delay hospital renovation

Renovations at a Manitoulin Island hospital are slightly delayed due to supply chain challenges.

Manitoulin Health Centre CEO Paula Fields says the expansion at the emergency department of the Mindemoya site is progressing, but due to delays in necessary building supplies and equipment, the anticipated completion in July has now been extended to September.

She emphasizes they continue to have a fully functioning emergency department, which is open to the public 24 hours a day.

Fields adds the overall emergency department renovation and expansion project, which includes the chemotherapy suite and other upgrades, will allow the facility to maintain pharmacy standards and increase the quality of care and service to chemotherapy patients.

However, she adds chemotherapy patients will have to continue receiving treatment at their partner outreach sites for the time being.

WEB: “We are grateful for the assistance and support of our partner outreach sites, including the Northeastern Cancer Centre (NECC) in Sudbury and the hospital in Elliot Lake. If anyone is looking to join the chemotherapy program soon, patients are encouraged to speak with their primary oncology team to discuss the referral process.”
