New judge formally sworn in to oversee Elliot Lake, Blind River and Espanola courts

A new judge for Elliot Lake was the first swearing held in Ontario since before the pandemic.

Justice Dana Peterson was formally sworn in at the Sault Ste. Marie courthouse last Thursday.

Peterson is assigned to Elliot Lake but will also oversee proceedings in Blind River and Espanola.

Peterson comes from a strong background in law with both her parents serving as lawyers, her uncle and grandfather serving as judges and her great grandfather as a magistrate.

Peterson joined the local Crown’s office in 2002 after she was called to the bar, and as an assistant Crown attorney, she was responsible for domestic violence, mental health and youth specialized courts.
