Chi-Cheemaun prepares to sail

The M.S. Chi-Cheemaun, which runs between South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island and Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula is expected to take its 2022 maiden voyage next week.

The Owen Sound Transportation Commission states it is hoping to have repairs completed and have the ship ready to sail next week on May 6th.

The vessel is in Thunder Bay still undergoing repairs following a fire in the boiler room that broke out on March 12th while it was drydocked for the winter season.

The commission adds it does not expect any delays recognizing the important role the vessel plays in supporting the local economy of both the Bruce and Manitoulin Island.

Built in Collingwood, the Chi-Cheemaun entered service in 1974 and can carry up to 140 vehicles, mostly cars, and 638 passengers.

Reservations are available to be made for the 2022 season both online and by telephone.
