Day of Mourning ceremonies planned in Espanola and Elliot Lake

Day of Mourning ceremonies will be held in both Espanola and Elliot Lake.

Domtar spokesperson Darla Southwood says Espanola Mill workers and staff will converge at the memorial located on-site this Thursday at 11 am to mark the day.

Another ceremony will be happening at the same time and Elliot Lake residents are invited to attend at the Miner’s Memorial.

Spokesperson Amelia D’Amato says four names are to be added to a new column at the Miners’ Memorial on the shores of Horne Lake.

Marked annually in Canada on April 28th, the National Day of Mourning is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives or suffered injury or illness on the job or due to a work-related tragedy.

It is also a day to collectively renew commitments to improve health and safety in the workplace and prevent further injuries, illnesses and deaths.
