Petition to return autistic equipment to Elliot Lake’s Westview Park

A petition will be going to Elliot Lake council later this month demanding the autistic equipment located at Westview Park remain in place and not be moved to the Lookout Tower location.

Resident Jessie Hennessey says removing the two pieces of equipment, which produce noise that stimulates children on the spectrum, should not be removed because of one or two noise complaints by nearby residents.

Hennessey says she contacted the manufacturers who said it was the first time, to their knowledge, that any equipment has been removed because of noise-related problems caused by vandals.

She emphasizes Westview Park was founded specifically for children on the spectrum and the petition calls on council to rescind its motion and fence in the park to prevent vandals from causing noise that is disturbing nearby residents.

Mayor Dan Marchisella says the two pieces are being removed, but five other new pieces of equipment are being brought in.

The petition is available for signing at North Shore Advertising and Printing or online at: https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-removal-of-sensory-equipment-at-westview-park-all-children-deserve-inclusion?
