MHC working on program to deliver health care to First Nations

In accordance with their strategic goals, the Manitoulin Health Centre board of directors has recognized the need to better reflect Indigenous culture within day-to-day practices.

According to the release, the board retained the services of Mariette Sutherland, a third-party consultant, to develop a strategy for the interaction of the Indigenous community within the hospitals in Mindemoya and Little Current

Last fall, surveys were conducted with two First Nation communities, M’Chigeeng First Nation and Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation, as well as staff at the two facilities.

The board says this spring, they will meet with the remaining First Nation communities on Manitoulin Island and other community partners with a tentative plan of releasing survey results in early summer.
