An Elliot Lake property owner has been fined for various offences under the Ontario Fire Code.
Elliot Lake Fire Chief John Thomas says the owner of the property at 99 Spine Road, has been fined $25,000 for various offences under the Ontario Fire Code as the result of a failed fire safety inspection in 2019.
Thomas says the property, which was the site of the former White Mountain Academy, is owned by a numbered Ontario corporation.
He says numerous fire safety violations were found adding that when corrective actions are not taken, a property owner ends up with substantial fines.
He emphasizes that the goal of site inspection is to ensure occupant safety through education and enforcement.
