Earlier this month, the Manitoulin OPP asked for the public’s assistance in solving several thefts from ice huts on Manitoulin Island.
Constable Tessa Kasch says there were several thefts on Lake Mindemoya in late February and on March 17th, the OPP was notified by someone that had seen another individual breaking into an ice shack.
She says the person was observed leaving the ice shack on a snowmobile, which officers located and conducted a traffic stop.
Kasch says the investigation revealed the snowmobile was stolen and the driver arrested.
A 45-year-old from Sudbury has been charged with theft, possession of property over $5,000, flight from police, dangerous driving, driving while suspended and two counts of breach.
She says the accused is to appear in Gore Bay court today. (March 21st)
