LaCloche municipalities considering a shared economic development officer

The four municipalities that make up the LaCloche Foothills region is looking at creating a regional economic development officer to share in investing in the area.

Espanola has its own EDO but is supporting the resolution to share in the funding for a regional officer for the town and its neighbours, the townships of Nairn & Hyman, Sables-Spanish Rivers and Baldwin.

Mayor Jill Beer says the town currently funds economic development with an annual budget of $50,000.

Additional funding to all four municipalities will augment the programs to share services.

She adds funding would be provided through FedNor to the tune of $300,000 over the next three years.

Council supported the resolution, and it will now be up to the other three municipalities to also support the proposal for it to move forward.
