The RUSSIA-UKRAINE DAILY REPORT

Ukrainian officials say an operation to allow civilians to flee the northeastern city of Sumy has been successful, with more than five-thousand people escaping the fighting.

However, an effort to evacuate civilians in the besieged southern port city of Mariupol failed after Russian forces opened fire on relief convoys.

The United Nations estimates more than two million people have now fled Ukraine.

Heavy artillery and air attacks continue on several cities today, including the capital of Kiev, but the Ukrainian military says Russian ground forces have made little progress.

Western nations continue to ratchet up the pressure on Russia.

The United States is banning all Russian oil imports, while the U-K says it will end its dependence on Russian energy by the end of this year.

The list of companies suspending business activity in Russia also continues to rise.

Among those making the move are McDonald’s, Starbucks, K-F-C, Pepsi, and Coca-Cola.
