East Algoma OPP put out warning about cryptocurrency scam

The East Algoma OPP has put out a warning about a cryptocurrency scam in the local area.

Constable Bev Gauthier is reminding everyone to do your homework before giving any personal information online or send money or prepaid ITunes cards to anyone.

She says there is a scam involving cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin, which is not regulated in Canada and there is no protection from fraud when using them as a form of payment.

Gauthier adds anyone suspecting they are a victim of fraud, can contact police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

If you suspect you may be the victim of fraud or have been tricked into giving personal or financial information, contact your local OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or visit their website at: www.antifraudcentre.ca
