Disciplinary hearing underway for Greater Sudbury Police officer Melisa Rancourt

A Greater Sudbury Police Constable is facing an additional charge for her conduct.

Communications Constable Kaitlyn Dunn says because of concerns that were brought forward to Police Chief Paul Pedersen between September 2021 to January 2022, an internal investigation was launched into the conduct of Constable Melisa Rancourt.

She adds the Greater Sudbury Police Service Professional Standards Bureau conducted a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.

Dunn says the matter is being treated as misconduct resulting in two counts of Discreditable Conduct contrary to the Police Services Act of Ontario.

She adds since the matter is currently before the Tribunal, no further comment will be made at this time.

Dunn says the next hearing will be held virtually on March 28th.

Dunn says Rancourt was originally charged with resisting a peace officer, and two charges of trespassing on September 26th of last year, but those charges have been dealt with two charges dropped and a fine paid on the third.

At the time those charges were laid, Police Chief Pedersen placed Rancourt on administrative leave, and she was charged with the original one count of discreditable conduct.

Dunn says the second discreditable charge was read out during this week’s hearing regarding further incidents from September 2021 to January 2022.

Dunn says the details of the alleged discreditable conduct will be part of the disciplinary hearing process with the next appearance set for March 28th.
