Manitoulin Health Centre introduces Automatic Dispensing Unit

Manitoulin Health Centre has received some new equipment that will help control medications.

Pharmacy manager Jayme Watson says the health centre has received four new Automatic Drug Dispensing Units.

She says the units are pharmacy-based and contain medications providing for safe, monitored medication dispensing to patients – like a vending machine.

Watson says the units in Little Current will be activated March 15th, one on the inpatient unit and one in the Emergency Department, and the Mindemoya site on March 28th.

She explained the units’ interface with the electronic records system known as Meditech, so, patients’ medications are profiled, decreasing the risk of medication errors.
