Elliot Lake council has given its approval to make improvements to a former cinema for a new arts centre.
Elliot Lake’s Economic Development Manager Steve Antunes told council several local groups have toured the facility and will meet with the advisory sub-committee later this week to discuss how they would work together in the building.
Antunes says council already approved the application to the Canada Community Revitalization Fund for upgrades to the former Reel To Reel Cinema, adding the downtown location and renovation will allow the building to serve as an art center to house various groups in the community to practice their craft.
The financial impact is estimated to be $453,350, with a total of around $1-million put into the project.
