Get out fishing this Monday for a great cause – the Northern Ontario Families with Children with Cancer

Preparations are underway for the Ninth Annual Fishing For a Cure Derby that will be held on Brosseau Street on Vermillion Lake at the Chelmsford Fish & Game property with the funds going to the Northern Ontario Families with Children with Cancer.

Shawn Scott, the organizer of the event, says there will be a vintage snow machine show on Monday to add to the fun of the derby. He adds there will be pre-drilled holes so all you have to do is bring your fishing gear, snacks, chairs and smiles.

He says the entire lake is available for setting up to catch the big one and with the stocking of walleye in the lake, there should be plenty of action.

The stocking was done by the Chelmsford Fish and Game Association with around 100,000 released into the lake.

Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer has had difficulties maintaining its financial supports and programs over the pandemic, but the fish derby could be the first step to recovery for the groups that offers 23 programs and supports to some 200 families throughout the North.

It needs $300,000 a year to provide that support.

The group is the official charity of Ms. Regional Canada, so look for a special St. Patrick’s Day Radiothon with the Moose 99.3FM on the day to help raise funds for this vital group.
